Private sessions will benefit you if:

  • you’ve tried many other healing modalities but found little or no relief

  • you hope to delay or avoid surgery that isn’t necessary

  • you want to get “unstuck” from thought and emotional patterns that find support in your musculature

  • you want to improve your self-esteem, confidence and posture

  • you are committed to fully realizing your potential

  • you want to feel younger

What are private sessions like?

The focus is on elucidating your abilities, and how you can begin to expand them. I help you become aware of and improve habitual patterns of movement that you may have unconsciously adopted for very good reasons. Among these causes may be emotional states, injuries, neurological issues, chronic pain, autoimmune conditions and osteoarthritis. Together we will acknowledge the need that you once had for protecting yourself, how those holding patterns may be limiting you and causing you pain now, and exploring more appropriate options for the present.

Gradually and gently, with your comfort at the forefront, I help you to reacquaint yourself with movements that you may have forgotten you were able to do. We often apply what you have learned to a practical function or skill, so that you can incorporate the improvement into your life.

With new possibilities and an expanded sense of self, over time you will experience a heightened sense of awareness, self-determination, self-esteem and capability.

How is it different from a class?

There is no way to individualize the instruction in a class setting. I will create a safe situation and individualized instruction just for you. If you are new to Feldenkrais and/or you are experiencing a movement difficulty, private sessions will be extremely beneficial.

How is it different from other modalities?

With the focus on the nervous system, Feldenkrais is fundamentally different from rehabilitative therapies, massage, acupuncture, chiropractic, energy work and so forth. While I respect and acknowledge that some may benefit from those approaches, unless the client becomes more aware of and changes how they move, he/she is likely to find only temporary relief. Fundamental change occurs on the neurological level.

What’s the difference between online and in-person sessions?

If Feldenkrais was about manipulation of bones and soft tissue, working online would be impossible. Fortunately, Feldenkrais works on a higher level, improving the brain through learning. I am skilled at observing motor patterns and eliciting change without touch, by using words and imagery that improve movement, breathing, and mood. When working online, you are responsible for your own movement, as I guide you verbally. In-person, I am generally using touch and doing the movement for you.

How long are sessions and how many will I need?

That depends, but after the initial consultation most clients begin with a series of at least 10 weekly sessions, and each session is approximately an hour.
